#4: The 5 steps to live with more ease

"I lived in this terrible existence for so long as a business owner."

Learn how I transformed my chaotic and anxiety-filled life by taking control back of my time.  I used to be constantly stressed and overwhelmed and stopped enjoying life…. so much so, that it was taking a physical and mental toll on me.

By implementing a good system for managing my calendar and prioritizing my time, I was able to turn things around. Today, I manage a team of 10 for my business, fit in exercise at least 4 times a week, have speaking engagements, teach, host this podcast, run events, spend time with my friends and family… and am still able to travel for at least six weeks every year.

How?  I developed a system called At Ease.

Here are 5 ways to get control over your to-do list instead of letting it control you:

  • Put all of your life and work to-dos on paper - either a journal or a word doc.  You can do this weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly, or all of the above.
  • Filter it by grouping items into "yes, no, maybe" piles.  Which things do you want to commit to? Which things do you realise you actually don’t want? And which things could you do later?
  • Set a morning routine, and stick to it so you start each day on your terms.
  • Put your “yes” and “maybe” items into your calendar.  Make sure some of your “yeses” are personal items, like the gym.  You can colour code them too so you can visually see if you have too many or too little of a certain type of task.  If you need to, you can always move your maybe items around as they are not as important.
  • Watch your boundaries - remember to say “no” more often!

I use this system to help me fit in everything I want to and enjoy the little life moments I would have missed before.  I hope it helps you too.
